Fresh Baked Feature...

Ok, so it's Tuesday which means I'm not exactly on the ball, but am still quite chuffed to discover that my little creations were featured on {KID} independent's Fresh Baked Friday last week.
The KID independent blog is a great read at anytime, but even better still when I'm featured, hehe!

Fleamarket finds...

Spent yesterday morning with Estelle at the Camberwell Market, we are a bargain hunting team! It was pretty slim pickings and I wasn't really after anything in particular, my home is chock-o-block full of things looking to find their place in the scheme of things. Luckily for me Estelle spotted this gorgeous birdhouse, I managed to bargain the seller down $5 with my apparent disinterest, $15 later this little beauty was mine.
I really didn't know where it was going to go until Mr Man ripped out an annoying intercom phone in the lounge room leaving a big hole in the wall...(see yesterday's post)
A bit of furniture re-arranging and I think my new little corner looks lovely.

History...

Spent the weekend doing small home improvement jobs about the place. Was bemused to find this small piece of colourful wall paper behind a very annoyingly placed intercom phone in our bedroom.
It makes me wonder what the rest of the house looked like before it was beigefied (verb - to make interesting decor boring and beige ) in the late 80's.

Now we can finally get a bed head...

Animation Friday - Retro Kitty

Pom Poms and Pockets...

It's been a little while since I've had an order for a Custom-made skirt, I'd forgotten how much fun they are to make. The only condition Miss Anabelle set for me was that the skirt had to have Pom Poms.

Too Cool...

I rarely get a decent photo of Emma these days, she is constantly in the move. Out of the 100 or so I took of her today, this was the only one that was not blurred and in focus. We were playing dress-ups with these sunglasses. Very Audrey Hepburn-esque don't you think?

♥ Tiltshift ♥ Love ♥

Like I need another excuse to spend more time online! Thanks to How About Orange, I discovered this fantastic website that makes the subject of your photos look like miniatures, a photography technique called Tilt-Shift. Here are a couple of photos from my trip to Hong Kong which look totally awesome once tilt-shifted. I've included the before photo so you can see the difference.The little red tram looks so dinky in this one...
Mr Man makes me take construction site photos, drives me crazy, you should see how many photos of cranes I have!

Not for knitting...

I'm not a knitter - I can knit though. I can cast on and do your basic stitches, but the truth is it really stresses me out. My tension is always too tight and I often lose my place or drop stitches. Luckily I have mum to make knitted garments for Emma, I'll stick to crochet.
My lack of enthusiasm for knitting doesn't deter me from buying these colourful vintage plastic needles from op-shops when I find them though. I think I may make bracelets from them using this tutorial.
Some adult sized ones for me and some girly sized ones for the shop...

Animation Friday - Spring Dress

Yes it's Animation Friday again, the week does fly by when you're having fun. As you can all see I've been busy sewing lots this week and I thought I'd incorporate one of my new dresses into my animation.
This one was created by using the 'stickers' in the 'create' section of Picnik. You can use a static photo and move the stickers around, saving the image between each move to create a series of sequential images. I've been a bit tricky and superimposed the dress image too...
I couldn't resist a Spring themed animation for this lovely floral dress. I've been saving this vintage fabric for just the right project.

Experimental Pants...

Well, I bet that title has got you intrigued?

I've been feeling for a little while that I'm kind of uncomfortable with the increasing trend of kids clothes being down sized versions of adult fashion...What ever happened to letting kids express themselves in fun clothes without labels and gender stereotypes...? Just me or are there others out there that feel the same? I hope so, because I've been having fun playing with colours and styles, and will be making more bright and fun clothing that won't necessarily be just for boys or just for girls. Sizing will be flexible depending on how it's worn and there definitely won't be any matchy matchy outfits.

I hope you all come along for the ride, I really welcome feedback and am interested to know your thoughts.

Oh, and the experimental pants...they are heelarious aren't they? I've totally fallen in love with my over-locker and am experimenting with knit fabrics. More stretchy goodies to come...

An apple a day...

I've made 2 of these bolero vests for my stall at Mathilda' s Market on Sunday. They feature genuine 70's vintage fabric and a cute little apple button. Would look great over a floral dress or with jeans and a long sleeve top.
All the fabric I've used is 100% vintage or reclaimed. Do you like it?

Join the Harem...

It's been a while since I've fired up the sewing machine, but with Mathilda's Market only a few days away I thought I'd better create something new to offer. This is my latest creation - Harem Pants. They are a bit big on Emma in this photo, (she is wearing a size 2/3 and she's only 1) they are meant to be sort of mid calf length for spring, like knickerbockers. Do you like them.
100% vintage fabric (except ribbing bands).
They are available in size 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, 5/6 & 6/7 at Mathilda's Market on Sunday, after that I will post them for sale online. Please contact me if you would like to pre-purchase a particular size.

Animation Friday...the red shoes

I have a bit of a thing for red shoes, I find they go with everything. Emma has quite a few pairs, some she's grown out of, others she'll grow into (during the right season I hope!).
They are so cheery on a gloomy morning like today's, they make me smile. I hope they cheer you up too...

Market Time...

I'm really looking forward to next weekend's Mathilda's Market at the Hawthorn Town Hall. I'll have a stall there with lots of bits and pieces I'm hoping to clear at very attractive prices, as well as some new toys, and (if I really pull my socks up this week), lots of fantastic new garments that have been sewn over and over in my head a million times but have yet to eventuate. 

So there I've said it, now to deliver the goods! Fire up the sewing machine...

Kids In Style...

I spent today with Emma and my mother at the Life in Style trade fair. Emma was well behaved and charmed everyone with her super smile and adorable chit chat, mum was like a little child who wanted to touch everything. EVERYTHING! Only bribing her with coffee and cake kept us moving on...
So I wasn't really there to do any major buying, but these new products really caught my eye, I could really see them on Poppet in the Post.

Hola, Hi & Bonjour!

Ok, so I promised ages ago to share an easy way to make animated gif files...sorry it's taken me so long.
You don't need to use any special software, just some free web based tools...

Here are the 6 easy steps:
1. Choose your images, it looks better if there is some sort of sequence. You can edit them to add words, borders or other cute images using Picnik.
2. make sure they are not too big, re-size them to 450px or less
3. Click onto Picasion Gif creator and upload the photos in the order that you want them displayed. Choose the size and speed of your animation.
4. Click create animation, wait a few seconds for the file to generate. Now you have the source code for the file.
5. Copy and paste the direct link code into the web address/URL of your image uploader.
6. That's it, DONE!

I'm sure there are a million different ways to do these, I'll love to hear of any easier ways...

Good enough to eat...

I picked up some awesome Japanese goodies whilst on my vacation in Hong Kong recently. I've got a heap of lovely items that I'll be uploading to Poppet in the Post over the next few days/weeks, I'm just waiting for the light to improve so I can take some decent photos. I thought these little kits were cute, and so easy to make, the felt pieces are already pre-cut. Instructions in English so no excuse not to get crafty...

...and speaking of things that look like food, I also discovered Q-pot, an amazing Japanese jewellery and accessory label that makes quirky pieces resembling food. This burger necklace was my favourite, you can add fillings to order...
