Giveaway: All Sewn Up + Vintage Bunting Kit

Crafty giveaways don't come better than this! To celebrate the inclusion of My Poppet's Vintage Bunting Kit in the new book by Chloe Owens, All Sewn Up, we are giving away a signed copy of the book and a bunting kit to one lucky winner.

Like me, Chloe loves using colourful vintage fabrics in her projects. She combines them with contemporary prints and free style machine embroidery to create beautifully textured pieces.

And the love is mutual, here is what Chloe says about My Poppet:

Beck said...: I'm always pretty proud when I actually manage to FINISH something! But my proudest was a picture transfer onto a wooden block... Simple but I instantly fell in love with the finished product. I loved being able to display some of my favourite photos in such a unique way. P.S love your blog, always so bright & inspiring!

I lost my Mother a few years ago to cancer and I have found doing this to be a very healing process. It has also been important to share these pages with my children, who sadly never got to meet such an incredible woman. I have loved sewing, painting, printing on all these pages. Liora said...: My proudest crafting moment to date was completing (with the help of a good friend) a felted mushroom fairy house for my daughter - it has some wool embroidery on the walls, a wooden door with a tiny bell and small table and stools made from a cut up branch. Angie said...: Ummm, I would have to say my proudest moment was the first presents I made for my students.... I'm a design teacher (high school), and I thought it would be nice to give my students something to remember their design education by, and to give them some encouragement throughout their uni life... so two little characters as well as an emblem and pattern were designed and gocco printed onto calico - character for the front, pattern for the back, emblem centered, and then stuffed! Iggy and Po (the "imaginables") were born! They each came with an id card that gave inspirational messages, and reminded the students of some of the best design elements (favourites), as well as things to be avoided (allergies).
I still have a pair on my desk - they are very cute and remind me of that group of students. I've made something different every year, and am getting quite a collection of student memorabilia now! Good times :); 14 May 2012 11:05 pm

PJ edwards said...: We have three little children and are struggling on one wage. Two of my children have birthdays in the same week in June. What to buy and how to afford it was the daily question. I have decided to ditch the plastic battery operated toys and go eco-friendly! So I have made rockets for my children using calico, denim, fabric and felt scraps. Natalie said...: When I was about 13 years old I pestered my grandmother into buying me a massive cross stich pattern and materials for my birthday present. It was on linen, so I started out trying to stich over a single thread, had to rip it all out and start again....(this was pre google days people - there was no easy way to know how to start!) It was the first cross stitch I attempted, and I don't tend to do things by halves. No one thought I'd stick with it, but by the time I was 16 or so I had completed it, and have gone on to make many more. natalie@mikehill.org; 15 May 2012 8:43 am
Girl From Nara said...: My proudest crafting moment was when I cross-stitched a hand towel for my Grandmother with a row of tiny, perfect mice dressed in suits, holding hands. Not really to my personal taste, but I was so thrilled when Gran declared she wasn't sure whether she would actually be able to use it because it was so beautiful (I urged her to do so). It was such a monumental task (to me) and I had actually stitched everything upside down. Instead of getting upset and being a perfectionist, I let all that go and just gave the gift with joy. It was magical to give her a special place(she has 4 brothers) to call her own.

Jade said...: My proudest moment would have to be the patchwork quiltcover I made for my little girls - it was my first attempt at sewing in years, and took 6 months to make, but 5 years later and it is still being used and loved to death by them. Iliska Dreams said...: I would have to say decorating the baby room. I turned a dark (walls were painted dark blue) small room into room full of light and love. The room is black and white with splashes of orange.

Almost everything in the room was thrifted and re-done. The lamp shades and the chair were re-covered; the cot and change table sanded back and re-stained; curtains made and walls painted; patchwork quilts, made for both bassinet and cot; to the artwork and photography on the walls, everything was crafted with love.

Only thing I didn't do was handmade toys and bunting. Wanted to, but wasn't sure how. Even my oldest child has asked for bunting in her room... something I must learn how to do.

Jane said...: I think my proudest crafting moment was when I was in high school. My grade went on an excursion where we could wear 'mufti' clothes so I decided to sew a bag to take with me. It was a simple drawstring bag with a handle but I made it with a funky fabric (this is back in the 80's!). All my friends commented on the bag and some even offered to pay me to make a bag like it for them. I did end up sewing many more bags from that point. I didn't sell them though, instead I gave them as birthday gifts. I felt so proud of my achievement and it brought a smile to my face when I saw my friends use my creations as their favourite bag. I think this started not only my love of sewing, but my love of retro and vintage fabrics.

So I dicided to do a blanket. I think the result was great. I miss that time! I had hand painted the wool and love to crochet and knit simple things like scarves. I had my 'knitting' mother-in-law staying with us and she assured me it was simple to follow the pattern....frankly just looking at it freaked me out. With her patience and my patience (I guess) I did it and now am happy that it is finally cooling down at night so I can wear them again.

Then one day while pregnant with number two Pip dropped him while we were at the shops - & when we went back in search of him we found a lady trying to nick it for her kids! kirri raper said...: My proudest moment was the first time i was asked to fill a gallery window in a little seaside town. I'm 24 and have suffered 15 years of illness which completely interfered with my school studies, all this time i continued with my art and finally managed to get to art college, i chose a university and was accepted but i only managed 3 months before i was back in hospital. i continued with my textiles when the gallery contacted me and asked if i could display some of my creations. This is what gave me my new fight in life and i have continued to create work and since then have raised over £700 pounds for local charities. Unknown said...: My proudest crafty moment came the other day, when after hours of hard work and inhaling far too many embossing fumes, my fiance and I finally finished making our wedding invitations. I was nervous about sending people something so personal especially as weddings can be a time when people judge all your choices but they were actually mistaken as having been commissioned from a proffessional! I was so pleased people liked them and it has increased my confidence in crafting lots of other pieces for the upcoming wedding this summer which has an old English village fete theme to it. Hallie said...: I think one of my most proud crafting moments would be when I made a bumper for my daughter's crib. I never like to follow the crowd and how I wanted my crib to look was no different. I just couldn't bring myself to buy a store bought one... but I had never made anything like that that before and was terrified!! It ended up turning out so great and I even used the fancy cording on the edge ( not sure of the technical terms of that!). My babies have since grown out of that crib but I have the bumper tucked away as a keepsake... definately a proud crafting moment! :)

Since that first one, I've made so many tiny dolls, met so many nice people because of these little dolls, and apparently inspired many people to try out making little dolls for themselves...

I think my proudest craft momnet is whenever I finish something that works out like I had hoped. Even better if it is something someone loves and wears. Recently I knitted myself a shawl and my 11 year old has stolen it and has worn it to school everyday since. That is definitely a proud crafter mama moment.

My proudest crafting moment was when my daughter opened her birthday gift of a quilt for her bed - the very first quilt I'd made since my high school textiles class.

I was all nervous and excited about starting it but when I came across the perfect fabric (black with red polka dots), I dived on in and couldn't believe it when I saw the finished piece...and more importantly that if fitted (with a bit of tweaking! ;-) ). I wore that skirt everywhere and while I cant fit into it now after having two kids I still have it. It reminds me of the time where I would sit and learn from my mum. I was pretty pleased with myself for being able to put it together but to actually see it being used for its indented purpose, that was kind of cool :) Am now working on a lap blanket for myself as practice for a baby blanket for friends - I'm pretty sure that seeing that one in use will trump anything I've done to date.; 17 May 2012 11:17 am

I had a gorgeous fabric, just a tad more than what I would need to do the curtains (as in, couldn't re-try if I completely messed up!) ... the fabric has big squares on it and they are lined up on the two panels, and the loops for hanging are pretty evenly spaced. anonymouse said...: My proudest crafty moment was making a dress completely out of ties with my mum at the age of eleven (which was 2 years ago) It looked pretty awesome and I wore it for a recycled fashion show. You never really know how long ties are until you make a dress out of them!

Ness said...: Mine is definitely being assigned to the assistant's spot, while my 9 year old marvelously crafted a Sally dog during a class with Jodie from Ric Rac. In less than 6 hours she had completed the project start to finish, with little help from mum and the look of accomplishment on her face at the end was amazing. My proudest crafty moments are when I am able to help my students - my high school kids or crafty class students - complete something they are proud of! Their level of success is super varied but their happiness is an awesome moment:)

Also when people ask my lovely niece about her handmade clothes and she says with pride "My Lanny made it!"

I took forever in Spotlight choosing the right floral fabrics and then used four little flags of linen to write 'Tess' on. We had the party in a park not far from home and when I arrived at the park to set up the party I realised that I had left the cake bunting at home. I almost cried as I was so proud of it and really wanted her cake to look special. Luckily my gorgeous husband drove back home to pick it up for me.; 22 May 2012 8:51 pm

I had never made anything patchwork, stuffed, 3D or anything and as I was making it, definatly felt I couldnt finish, but did and I made it for my neices 1st birthday! What makes me feel special is that she apparently has to have it with her in the cot every night to sleep! That makes me feel special. Also didnt expect to win a prize, and entered a photo of it in to another facebook comp and was one of the winners! Definatly a proud moment! I was going to say some of the decorations I've made for b'days, Easter & Christmas and the gifts I've helped my 3 boys make for teachers and classmates...but then I thought about last year...how we invited my son's whole class over for a Christmas craft afternoon. The kids made baubles, wrapping paper and fingerprinted cards. It was so cool seeing our house overtaken by 6 year olds who were stoked at making something homemade for their family/friends and who were excited about using new materials and learning new techniques.
